About this project
This initiative brought together doubly marginalized women in urban Cambodia to build collective voice and advocacy through participatory learning and dialogue. The work focused on four groups including Indigenous women, women with disabilities, rural-to-urban migrant women, and women facing violence. Using listening-based research, community learning exchanges, and collective advocacy, participants explored shared and distinct experiences of discrimination, insecurity, and exclusion in city contexts. The initiative emphasized building unity across communities while strengthening individual and collective confidence to speak publicly and influence policy discussions. Through a phased approach centered on listening, sharing, and speaking together, the initiative created space for intersectional dialogue and collaborative action. It helped elevate the lived experiences of doubly marginalized women into public awareness and policy conversations while strengthening networks that continued beyond the life of the project.
Results
- Participatory research using Facilitative Listening Design, engaging grassroots women as community researchers and generating shared insights across four communities.
- Strengthened skills and confidence among participants in research, storytelling, and public advocacy.
- Cross-community learning sessions covering advocacy, sexual health, livelihoods, and mental health.
- Formation of a stronger informal network of doubly marginalized women working across identities.
- Production of four community-based publications sharing lived experiences from each participating group.
- Creation of multimedia advocacy outputs including an original song, animated video, and documentary content.
- A national dialogue forum bringing together community representatives, policymakers, and civil society to discuss intersectional marginalization and policy change.
- Expanded public awareness through campaigns, exhibitions, and digital storytelling reaching wider audiences. ## Networks (sub tab) Strengthening impact through collaboration and partnership ### Weaving Women Leadership Network (WWLN) WWLN supports emerging grassroots women leaders across civil society by creating spaces for learning, reflection, collaboration, and mutual support. Through the network, women leaders come together to explore leadership challenges, share experiences, inspire one another, and strengthen their confidence and skills as changemakers in their communities. WWLN also helps connect women leaders across different sectors to foster collective action and highlight the strength and impact of women's leadership in society. WPM continues to support the network through mentorship, relationship building, and online sharing sessions focused on topics such as mental health, emotional first aid, wellbeing, and leadership during challenging times. (Link to blog within wpm domain that is dedicated for wwln only) ### Network of Interethnic Peace Ambassadors (NIPA) This network works to challenge stigma, discrimination, and misinformation toward minority communities in Cambodia, particularly within the Khmer mainstream. NIPA brings together more than 33 members from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds who play active leadership roles in fieldwork, homestays, and community engagement through AEOS/The Empathy Project. Through their lived experiences and expertise, members contribute to strengthening interethnic understanding, dialogue, and peacebuilding across communities. ### Peace Developer Peace Developer is an emerging Cambodian-Thai network of young peacebuilders, researchers, and community leaders working to address conflict, nationalism, and social division through creative and community-driven approaches. Made up of participants and researchers grounded in earlier WPM research, the network creates spaces for dialogue, cross-border collaboration, and collective learning between Cambodian and Thai communities. Through research, storytelling, public engagement, digital advocacy, and community initiatives, Peace Developer supports young leaders to challenge online hate and misinformation, strengthen understanding across differences, and promote more peaceful and inclusive relationships both online and offline.
